To confront a perfidious and nasty critique two weeks before in the same venue, Badura-Skoda played as unleashed, with an enormous energy, fuelled in part by internal fury. This concert recording which is to an extent owed to that heat of the moment is being published now on CD, featuring a second interpretation of the same Sonata, a studio recording made in the Mozartsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus six years later. This version is more controlled and, in the calmer passages, more internalised and contemplative than the New York interpretation. Oui. Aucune répétition ici. On en redemande! *by A***L on Reviewed in France on 22 May 2019* Cette sombre construction, unique, qui nous entraîne sans les moyens "tape-à-l'œil", les effets faciles, sans abuser, en tout cas de la façon qu'a Franz Liszt souvent de vous saisir "à l'estomac", de jouer des "tripes", qui s'étire et s'édifie peu à peu trouve un interprête enthousiaste en Bdura Skoda. La sonate, malgré sa complexité et ses méandres paraît s'inventer à mesure qu'elle se joue, non pas s'improviser - justement- mais bien ressortir à une élaboration difficile, qui surgit d'abord, mais très vite met en place un système d'explicitation qui montre clairement les directions qu'elle prend, la surface qu'elle veut englober, le début et la fin qui nous sont proposés. Si l'enregistrement en public peut sembler plus spontané, il ne manque pas plus de carrure que l'enregistrement en studio ne manque de cette faculté de nous faire ressentir l'œuvre avec la fraîcheur de la première découverte. On écoutera avec profit, avec cette version, l'enregistrement de David Frey qui joint à la sonate de Liszt la Wanderer Fantaisie de Schubert, l'une faisant comprendre l'autre, un peu comme on a pu comprendre un peintre par l'autre à l' exposition, Picasso - Matisse, il y a plusieurs année. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Interprétation géniale *by T***O on Reviewed in France on 5 February 2018* Je m'attendais à tout sauf à cela de la part de Paul Badura-Skoda plus connu pour ses excellentes interprétations de Mozart, Schubert et Beethoven.Ici, il est tout simplement déchainé et rend cette sonate passionnante à écouter de bout en bout ! Et tout cela avec une parfaite maitrise technique et artistique.Quant à savoir laquelle des deux versions choisir, difficile à dire. Disons que la version de 1971 est un tout petit peu plus posée tout en relevant de la même inspiration.
