It is durable, in addition to being chemical resistant, and is both dishwasher and microwave safe. It was introduced by Corning Glass Works in 1970, but is now manufactured and sold by World Kitchen.1 A typical Corelle dinner plate measures 26 centimetres in diameter and weighs 355 grams. They are very durable. I have dropped them on my wood kitchen floor and they do not break. However, since they are made of glass, they can be broken if the impact is hard enough. They do not break easily though and would be my choice over plastic for use with children. **Q: Is Corelle fixing the issue that most reviewers are reporting? (maybe they are suggesting it has a gray cast to it, but I do not see that) Sometimes, I have seen pieces in the outlet stores that have a "yellowish tinge" to the white.
