I don't want to start citing NEC Codes , but ya'll forgot to factor in "continuous duty." The the unit is 13kw at 240 volts , Basic Math 13,000 / 240 = 54.167 x 1.25 = 67.7 amps . Artical 310.16 table for wire amp and sizing, ROMEX House Wire is rated at 60c which according to the table #6 is only good for 55 amps, number #4 is good for 70 amps . This is due to the heating effect of the wire while in continuous use (water heaters are listed continuous duty). The Breaker can be any size up to 70 amps unless specified by manufacturer. Always go by manufacturers specification or better. This is why warranty is voided if not connected by a licensed electrician and your house burns down! **Q: My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion?** A: Most homes in the USA are wired with both 110 and 220 volts available in the breaker box. If you have an electric stove with an oven it no doubt runs on 220 volts. If you have central airconditioning it will most likely run on 220 volts. Just look in your breaker box and count all the circuits. read the numbers on them... This water heater will need another double 60 amp breaker. Check to see if you have space in the box, look for blank plates in the column of breakers. If this is too much information for you then you'd be better off getting an electrician to at least help you with the job. **Q: The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why?????????** A: Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label.
