Really vibrant colours!! A really great watercolour brush pen set.
TL:DR A really vibrant, affordable, watercolour brush pen set. Would probably be really great for a gift for a young person just getting into art, and for a seasoned artist who wants something a bit different.Pros:- water brush is really easy to control, no leaks, good water volume, good size brush- pens are a good weight, feel nice in your hand, and a good size, don't feel cheap- good selection of very vivid and pigmented colours- colours lift easily from watercolour paper- very compact packaging, good for on-the-go painting or travel- very affordableCons:- pad supplied is hot press 180gsm so may not hold up to super wet painting styles- if you're coming from traditional watercolour it takes a bit of playing around to find your technique- occasional wonky brush hair, but easily fixedI am a beginner with watercolours and only have a small amount of experience with watercolour pens. The pens themselves feel really nice, they don't feel cheap like the others I've tried. It comes with an aqua-brush and a pad of paper. Coming from traditional watercolours I found them initially difficult to get the hang of. My usual watercolour painting style is layering and these pens are beautifully bright and vivid and pigmented when applied directly to the paper. BUT, after a bit of experimenting and reading the tips in the supplied ebook, I got into a groove with them. My preferred technique is to use the pens on a plastic palette and then pick up the colour with the water brush to achieve essentially the same as my traditional watercolours. I then used the pens themselves, particularly the brown and the black for the finer lines and details. In the painted portrait attached I also used some pen-on-wet (applying the pen directly to wet paper) for the blue background wash. I also had a play around by applying them directly to the paper and blending them, and you can make some pretty interesting and neat effects. You can also rub one colour against another to get a fun dual colour effect. The supplied aqua brush was really nice, I actually prefer this one to the Pentel one I have as the water is much easier to control. It is on the smaller side, so you might struggle to do a large area wash, but for me, the small brush was perfect for both fine detail and general painting. This brush would be really great to take on the go and may find itself in my travel palette.I suspect these would be really good for brush lettering or illustration, as the colour is very consistent and vibrant, and blends easily without streakiness. There is a good selection of colours, and they are all very pigmented and vivid. They lift and blend really well on proper watercolour paper and when used with the aqua brush they look very much like traditional watercolours. The only real issue I had was with the supplied paper, which is hot press and 180gsm which therefore in my opinion is more of a cardstock quality than a watercolour paper. It worked fine for the pens alone, but when I applied water and brushed it pilled the paper and warped (I do work quite wet though, so this may not be an issue for everone). However I tried doing some fancy lettering on it and it was fine, provided you don't go over it more than once or twice. So for me, this paper will be reserved for sketching and quickly laying out a painting on the go. But really, I assume one would buy the set for the pens and not for the paper, so I don't think that's a deal-breaker. The colour swatch and the portrait I did (see photos) are both on cold-pressed 300g/m2 Cotman watercolour paperAs a few others have commented there were a few stray brush fibres here and there, but I just pulled them out (in one case I snipped one that was heading in a wonky direction) and that solved the problem, so it's not a huge issue. If I wanted a really fine point I sometimes had to roll the brush a little bit to ensure the tip was a point, but again this didn't bother me. I think it's unfair to compare these to Tombows because they are a completely different type of pen, not to mention the Tombows are about double the price. These are a BRUSH not a felt tip like the Tombows, so you have to treat them like a brush and accept that sometimes the tips are going to have to be manipulated and reshaped, as you would with a true watercolour brush.Overall I was really pleased with this product, and I look forward to experimenting more with them and seeing what else I can do. See attached pictures of what I did with them as a beginner!

Love this set
Don't often leave reviews but felt absolutely compelled to write this one.I received the set a few days ago. Haven't had the chance to test it fully yet, but am loving the truly vibrant and exciting range of colours and the ease of use. Bought these because am basically a digital artist, but wanted to reassure myself could draw with pens if required. And many of the same things that attracted me to digital art apply to this Vibrant jungle brush set: it's absolutely mess free, compact, non-toxic, and can be easily used in a small working space. If I had to comment on any possible improvements, the included pad of paper does seem to bleed a bit. But I suspect that it's probably because I'm doing something wrong-have not had chance to finish the tutorials yet, but the illustrations included with those are amazing, so wonderful things are clearly possible. Also, my understanding is that you'd expect this on thinner paper (I haven't yet tried the pens on thicker watercolour paper).Would also like to mention how much I appreciated something have never had with a physical product from Amazon before. After ordering but before the set arrived, a welcome email appeared in my inbox, containing more of those wonderful illustrations, and instructions on how the set should be used. It's a lovely gesture, and whetted my appetite for this product in a friendly way, just as much as it was surely meant to.Over and above all that though, what I hadn't expected is how much *fun* this set is to use. Warning: if you buy this set, you're very likely to feel like a kid at Christmas, whatever your age. Thank you Vibrant Jungle!

Brilliant pens - thoroughly recommended!
I’ve just had these Vibrant Jungle pens for a few days, but so far I’m loving them. They supply tutorials, so I completed one of them (see attached photo) and have since done another painting of my own. The company is extremely helpful and immediately sorted out a small problem I had with the waterbrush by sending me new ones! I hadn’t asked for these so I think their customer service is second to none. Two points I would like to make: one is that the pens don’t actually have the names of the colours on them, but I think the company is going to address this. The other thing is that I would like to see a greater variety of colours, especially greens, but of course you can mix and blend the colours with the waterbrush. If you enjoy painting really vibrant pictures, these are for you. I think the company have done an excellent job of marketing these pens by giving purchasers the tutorials. The packaging has been very well thought out. They are in a sturdy plastic package which would be great for taking with you for outdoor painting - and I forgot to mention that a useful little watercolour pad is also included. Just fill your waterbrush and off you go.All in all, I think this is an excellent product and I hope it is a success for the company.

Water colour brush pens
These brush pens are excellent for beginners , my only gripe is the hit press paper that comes with the pens really doesn't do the pens any justice .Luckily I had also purchased my own high quality bockingford 300gsm hot pressed smooth card and the brush pens performed well .My orange brush was a little dry but going on the quality of everything else I think I was just unlucky.I would recommend this for beginners and some one on a budget . I will however still be looking to buy the koi water colour brush pens but I will be using them with these too.
