Overall *by G***D on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 17, 2014* Just back from the farmer's market, I had ample opportunity to try this gizmo on a variety of items—zucchini, eggplant, cucumber, and sweet potato.Overall, I have to say the zucchini worked best for me. (The eggplant kept clogging the blades and the same with the cucumber. Sweet potato was okay but not as good as the zucchini, and definitely took more elbow grease.)I find it's definitely easier if you NOT do as pictured in the demo photo (holding the contraption over the bowl). Instead, hold it down against a firm surface, gripping carefully around the metal "handles." If you're not well-coordinated, you might not want to try this, because these blades are sharp.As a test, I didn't tell my husband what type of "spaghetti" I was preparing. I just said it was a little different. :-)First I sauteed some shallots and added some diced tomatoes, and cooked that down. Then I added the spirals of zucchini and closed the lid on a low heat. (Before adding the spirals, I put in the end bits of the zucchini that would not go through the spiral slicer and gave them a minute or two to soften.) If you cook too long or at too high a heat, you're going to have mushy stuff. I aimed for "al dente."My husband pronounced the results "delicious" and "not bad for faux spaghetti."I think this would be a great way to add vegetables to a finicky child's diet, providing that the spirals are not overcooked and are in a sauce that is tasty. A combination of yellow and green squash looks quite festive!Cleaning was not extremely easy. I found that if I set the gizmo in the dishwater to soak for a while, and then smacked it lightly against the sink, that worked better than the brush. This one did a good job on zucchini and cucumbers. Carrots are a bit harder, but I liked that it had different blades to do different things. For two people, this works. Your hands get tired, but for a big meal, this would not be your tool, unless you need a garnish or topping. I plan to slice potatoes and try this to make hash browns, and if I do I'll update my review, but for the standard veggies, it worked well for me. No safety issues. It needs cleaned out after a few minutes though, so that is a bit time consuming, but for the amount I do for my household, it didn't bother me. It cleaned easily with a little brush, and just sink and soap.
