The fill level in the container is easily visible through cut out holes in each corner of the collecting box. My friend has a Bosch one, which is a good deal cheaper, but it does not chop as thick branches. Smaller bucket, as well as it just dices with blades rather than this barrel-like blade. Which pulls the branch in, crushes as well as cuts the chippings. Perfect for malching the flower beds. Dealt with 12ft, 40mm branches as easily as 5mm green shoots. Length is not an issue and it does not really matter if side shoots are clipped off. It deals with them. (depending on size etc) yes, it is heavy I guess. But who wants to put a 12ft branch into a lightweight shredder? The only negative is as others have said. The bucket fastener is poor. it slides up to make a connection and will not work without it. Review: A good seemingly robust shredder - This is a heavy lump of kit and needs some muscle to manoeuvre and assemble from the outset. After that I would say I am 90% happy with the build quality. You have a very heavy shredder unit sat on the base which is supported by a sturdy tubular steel structure. I am a bit concerned that when you assemble it you are fixing plastic on plastic which also flexes a bit. However I assume they have done the maths and the stress levels are well within the tolerance of the materials. It operates well, chewing through all green wood passed through it as described. Because the receiver bin is enclosed it quickly forms a pyramid under the cutter and you have to disengage the safety lever and slide out the bin to redistribute the waste before restarting. I'd have preferred an open option where I could place my own waste bag underneath. As it is now you have to juggle a weighty bin to bag for disposal in my case. I went for this one as it is a trusted make and is about half the price of the equivalent Bosch shredder. The cable is of a good length. Mine came with 10m of heavy duty cable. That's much more cable length than normal for this type of machine. The 10m makes it easy to run the machine from through a cracked-open window connected to a 13A 3-pin socket from inside my home which saves me having to mess about with extension leads with attendant volt-drop under load. The cable came permanently attached, integral to the machine with a strain protection ferrule at the point of exit from the body of the machine. It is quite a heavy machine. Removing the cavernous chip collector bucket first will make it a little easier to lift up over any step or etc. I only have three minor gripes about the machine. 1) There is a bit of a ledge just above the 'crunch point' in the machine feed path which occasionally hands up on a branch. 2) The safety cut out lever on the bucket could be improved to ease safety circuit engagement and 3) A bucket-full indicator of some description could help prevent the machine from becoming chip-blocked. The machine (3) excepted, virtually never becomes blocked. I have, so far, chipped two tons, or more, of assorted types of wood, all without any adverse incident. It still operates as new. Expect this will the best chipper I've ever owned. Far far better than any and all impact chippers. Also it's safer and doesn't desperately need ear protection when working with fresh wood or green wood. The cut plus crush action accelerates the rate of decomposition of the chippings into fine compost. Operating tip:- The chip chute is not central to the bucket. So the bucket fills asymmetrically. To save having to empty the bucket so frequently, occasionally, just tip the whole machine at about 45 degrees to pour some of the chips into the unfilled end of the bucket and clear the chute exit point.
