I have, or had, a very badly weathered black composite front door. It looked almost bleached in parts of the bottom panels and across the bottom. I was hoping that applying this polytrol would help a very shabby door look somewhat better. Without doubt, it has exceeded expectations. The door is glossy, and there are no white bits remaining. It even cleaned up the letterbox, handle and knocker. I applied it by brush first and then with a lint-free cloth, and I rubbed off the excess. I applied it in the morning when it was coolest and no direct sun. I was concerned that it would be a gloopy mess, especially since the temperature yesterday was so high and it was a little sticky into the evening. It was easy to apply and didn't drip. This morning I can see that some areas (the faux wood grain) where the weathering was so bad are a little lighter. I think rereading the instructions I could have left it a little longer (I probably left it 10 minutes working in sections) and worked into those areas a little more before wiping off. Definitely value for money. This was something I thought I'd try before reluctantly buying a new door - I really didn't want all the hassle that goes with it either. You only need a relatively small amount so I have loads of the tin left ready for the next time. I used it on the door furniture and the security lights, so very handy and versatile. The grey had faded in the sun but with a few applications of this it looked great again. Working or drying time is as per the can instructions and is pretty quick. It does smell when in use to make sure the area is well vented. The product has the thickness of oil and is applied using a cloth. Ensure you use a white cloth as the product will cause colour transfer onto the plastic (I found this out by using a green cloth :( ). The excess is very easy to remove and mostly worked in. It offers future protection from fading and can reapplied later if needed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Use Sparingly for Top Class Results. *by T***S on 23 May 2026* Incredible product - I needed to refinish my front door so a small tin was purchased. Cleaned my door off with UPVC cleaner, let that evaporate then painted Polytrol on with a brush. Be advised - a little goes a long way - pour a tiny bit into a paint tin then add more if you need to. I found that the if I painted the top half of the door, and used a lint free cloth to wipe the rest of the door down, the cloth carried the product exactly where it was needed. It’s really easy to use, coverage is fantastic, only needs a single coat at this point. It doesn’t go on thick, it really doesn’t need to. It was touch dry in about an hour and I honestly forget to check again until the following day. The small tin has loads left in it, I can easily do my door again for the next two years, so value for money is top notch.
