As an adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX when his disability is interpreted as "suspicious" behaviour. Review: A beautiful, feelgood film - Khan is an "everyman" and this is one of those lovely "everyman" films. It's got everything you could possibly want - humour, romance, pathos. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you think. Khan is an endearing character and Shahrukh Khan gives a beautifully understated and restrained performance, which makes the character all the more believable. With a strong supporting cast this thoughtful film makes for an excellent experience. A note to anyone who has seen this film on the telly: buy the DVD anyway because there are a number of scenes in it that you don't get in the cut-for-TV version, and they help to give some of the other scenes a better context. A deeply moving and highly accurate portrayal of autism set across the backdrop of the 9/11 tragedy in the USA - this beautiful and brutally honest, often harrowing story gives a rarely seen, balanced and insightful portrait of the struggles of the muslim community at a time of such universal fall out. It IS a long film, and of course being partially sub titled, you need to really devot your conscentration, but in all honesty, from the start right through to the end, I was utterly gripped. An educational, non pretentious and incredibly enjoyable film. Watch it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely terrific film 10/10 *by S***N on 18 November 2014* This is without doubt one of the greatest films I've ever watched and I more than recommend it. If you've never seen anything from Bollywood than this is the best place to start. It's a little similar to Forrest Gump, only if that was about being essentially american, then this story goes one better because it is about being essentially human. A young man with Asperger's Syndrome makes his way through life from India to San Francisco and changes the world. I laughed, cried, sobbed, smiled, hated, loved and even had to stop watching for five minutes to shout out the window and re-evaluate my life. The strange thing is, that although Khan's performance is superb, there are director cuts that are a little bit sketchy, and 'some' translation issues, but it never matters. This is the film of the decade in my opinion and quite frankly, the best thing I've watched in years.
