It works by gradually feeding over a few hours a day, we have a 4 * 10ft pond with 12 goldfish - worked a treat. **Q: Hello, What is the size log the unit? Has anyone fitted to to wooden raised pond?** A: From memory, it is about 8" X 8" X 2". I had a timber across the pond, fitted another piece of wood vertically and then the feeder fitted into that with the sliding bracket that comes with the unit. Sadly mine gave up just before Winter and I am now looking around for a bigger unit. **Q: I'm assuming it holds up pretty good in our UK weather?** A: As another reviewer answered, I cover the majority of the unit with a plastic bag secured with a rubber band. It is then suspended over the pond by a simple wooden bracket and it has now completed 12 months and 4 holiday absences and the fish are very well.
