Ours like so many others, disappeared when magnetized to an oven tray and subsequently melted in the oven. If it happens that often is a problem that the manufacturer needs to address. This is a very expensive magnet. FYI if you go on you tube you can learn how to operate the hob without the knob but it's a faff.
