The silicone with adhesive surrounding tthe foam forms a secure bond with the skin to contain drainage and hold the dressing in place until it is removed. The adhesive sticks reliably, but does not irritate or tear the skin when removed. The dressings are water resistant so showering with the bandage on does not weaken the adhesive bond or cause the edges to peel from the skin. This type of dressing was recommended by a wound care physician I was referred to for treatment of the recurrently opening, infected wound. The dressings come in various sizes for the user's wound care needs. These dressings were valuable in the care of my open wound until my recent surgery to address the complications from prior surgery.
