A small number run cooler - must be a different chip set. But the big differentiator with the Trendnet is that it is NDAA compliant -- that is, it is certified not to use components made from companies the US gov feel are untrustworthy for telecomm equipment. Of the NDAA options, this one is 30% less expensive than the next lowest price one I've found. And performance is on par with the best (around 7.8Gb/s when maxed out with jumbo frames). The reason I purchased the product was to use it as my primary core switch for my other multi-speed TRENDNet switches. All of them have SFP+ connectors for their backbones and I wanted to link them back to this one.The first unit was dead on arrival. Fortunately, it was quickly replaced with a second unit a few days later. It’s been up and running ever since. My issue now is the firmware. All of the key features I use work, but the reporting aspects are a little off. On my network, a couple of my SFP+ connections are purposely set to 1GbE or 2.5GbE. However, the switch always shows the connection as 10GbE. Granted, this minor in the overall design of the product. However, these two experiences make me wonder about its overall quality. For this reason, I can only give my recommendation as 4 stars.Potentially, this could be a GREAT product.
