Product description Winged Bean - AKA. Dragon Bean The name "winged bean" comes from the unique feature of its pods, which have four prominent longitudinal wings or ridges along the edges. The winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus), also known as cigarillas, goa bean, four-angled bean, four-cornered bean, manila bean, princess bean, asparagus pea, dragon bean, is a tropical herbaceous legume plant. It belongs to the Fabaceae family and is a fast-growing perennial vine that can reach up to 3 to 4 meters (10 feet) All parts of the winged bean plant are edible, including the pods, leaves, flowers, and tuberous roots, making it a versatile and valuable crop. The young pods are the most commonly consumed part and have a crunchy texture with a flavor similar to a combination of green beans and asparagus. The leaves of the winged bean can be used as leafy greens in various dishes. The flowers of the winged bean are traditionally used to flavor and color rice dishes. The taste of the winged bean flower has been compared to that of mushrooms, especially when fried. The flowers are sometimes used in salads or cooked as a vegetable in certain cuisines.
