I followed the directions on the can (for the most part). I actually took the bench and floor planks outside, sanded them lightly, and oiled them in the sun. It works great and is easily applied. You can even put it in a spray bottle and wipe into the wood, this works especially good in tight or upside down areas. Definitely would recommend.
