To combat this when we go away for long periods of time, we have a drawer full of timers that we attach to lamps, etc. to make it look like we're home. Big project to deploy (including calibration), and to collect when we get home.But no more. This sensor does a much better job at protecting, and can stay in place. You can directly control each light remotely from your smartphone, or you can utilize the Preventive Burglary Control feature which randomly turns lights on and off in a time-interval you choose. Really smart. Plus it does a lot more.The sensor itself is an ingenious adapter that fits a narrow light bulb in regular light bulb socket, and packs the leftover space with 3 sensors: temperature, humidity, and sound. In addition to the remote light management function.It was very easy to install. I downloaded an app, which quickly found both my WIFI and the sensor. The privacy settings were clear and asked for permission at the relevant times. I assigned the sensor to a room (“Living Room”), and named it “Piano”. Now I can, from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, turn “Piano” on and off. There is also a dimmer function.Worth noting is the fact that the narrow light bulb must be one of the newest, energy efficient LED models, otherwise the sensor will not function.There is an Intrusion Detection feature which sends you an SMS/email if it hears noises when you are out. I turned this off because there are lots of people coming and going in our household, but it would be an interesting feature to use in the long term. Another feature is the Indoor Climate Monitoring, which sends you an SMS/email if the temperature or relative humidity is abnormal. Again nice to know about but not something we have used yet.Two features we have used are the Energy Saving Mode, which turns off the light if no one is home, and the Home/Away Automation, which automatically turns on the Preventive Burglary Control when we leave home.One thing about the sensor that takes some getting used to is the fact that the light needs to be “on” in order for it to be turned off by the sensor. If “Piano” is on, and someone manually turns it off, then I can’t get in contact with it from the app. The creators have tackled this by having a double-click function, which means that you should always double click a supported light. Thus if “Piano” is on, then you can manually turn it off, but you must quickly turn it “on” again – it will remain off, but you have reconnected the sensor to the app. Same thing if “Piano” is off: you can manually turn it on (although technically you just turned it off), and then quickly click again which turns on both the light and the app. When there are several members of the household this has proven to take some getting used to.All in all a great product, which really demonstrates the usefulness of the Internet of Things. And not surprising to see that since I bought it, it was named one of the top 10 products at CES 2018. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Peace of mind/Avoid frozen pipes in the winter! *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2018* I purchased one of the Anyware Smart Adapters and set it up a week ago to monitor temperature and humidity in an empty home. It’s been working great for me. I’ve also turned on the intruder detection feature. My main goal is avoid frozen pipes in the winter. It was easy to set up. The app is well designed and easy to use and lets me monitor conditions in the house. It might be helpful for some if there were a longer, more detailed video tour of the app and all its functionality. Some features first became clear after a little use (i.e. how to.access the time stamp for climate monitoring in the Room tab showing the time of the current reading/data point). I am not using the home/away feature that works with Bluetooth to turn things on/off when you enter/leave the house. I tried to test it but had some problems with Bluetooth pairing. All of the other features are working well and I do see a notification if the app is unable to connect over the internet with the Smart Adapter (if the house loses power or the internet goes down) indicating that the adapter has been switched off. This has occurred a couple of times I think due to the very basic DSL connection at the house. When this happens, I’ve been able to access current data as described above in the Room tab. If the adapter were truly off-line due to a power or Wi-Fi outage, I would have a nearby neighbor or family member check the house. Again, this was an easy solution for my needs. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Bought this on Prime Day, expecting it to work ... *by T***R on Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2018* Bought this on Prime Day, expecting it to work with Alexa ... it currently does not. I kept it, because I can see its potential, and Customer Service (which is very helpful) told me Alexa would be here Fall 2018. It clearly is still in development stage. The current software is 'buggy'. I get at least a dozen notifications a day (e.g. Offline, Intrusion Alarm, Energy Saving, etc). The setting seem to change by themselves, and many times it says I am Home, and a truck goes by or my dog barks (which he does when he wants my attention) ... and the lights start flashing; which the directions state, should only happen 'when no one is at home'.
