Review: I'll bite - 8GB VRAM is enough - Dive into any online forum specialising in PC hardware and/or gaming and mention a 4060, you'll probably be shot down in flames. Noone will ask you what is your 'use case', but simply assume you need to play the latest and greatest badly ported console titles on your PC at 4K/240Hz. So what does the 4060 offer? - Equivalent or better performance than 3060ti, 2070 Super, 1080Ti - Low power draw (115W). This in turn leads to easy cooling and low noise. - Value (it's value at £300 is poor, value at £220 is excellent) - Frame generation - Resolution upscaling The 8GB VRAM is a sticking point for my gamers and hardware reviewers. It only becomes in issue of exceeded by a game and therefore performance drops off a cliff due to the game having to use slower system RAM to make up the difference. All PC games have settings that can and should be altered to suit your hardware. That said most games will run at 1080p in excess of 60fps on this card on their highest settings and the vast majority will do the same at 1440p. Let's be clear, this is not a card for 4K and arguably not for ray tracing (although it is capable) - as this also has an impact on VRAM. As a father with 3 boys (who are all PC gaming mad), this card is excessive for the vast majority of the titles they play, however given the option of a dusty old second hand GPU at £150-£200 and this, I'd take the 4060 every time. Performance @ 1080p Forza Horizon 5 - 105fps Doom Eternal - 230fps F1 23 - 110fps Red Dead Redemption 2 - 70fps Spiderman Remastered - 120fps This MSI variant of the card offers a small 'overclock' out of the box, but this shouldn't be a deciding factor, the overclock is really minuscule - offering a 1-2% uplift at best. It is however a very compact unit, and makes zero noise at idle (fans do not spin up until under load). There is no need for any sort of GPU support stand or bracket with this card, it is simply not big or heavy enough to warrant it. I've had Ventus cards before (one of my sons currently has a 3060Ti Ventus 3x), and there is no issue with reliability or performance. One of the stars of the show with the 4060 is support for frame generation. It allows the generation of a 'fake' frame for every real rendered frame, almost (but not) doubling the frame rate. To be clear, frame generation is only really useful if you can generate at least 60 frames per second normally, as the game will still 'feel' like it's native frame rate - but paired with a high refresh rate 1080p monitor, most games can be played at really high frame rates, which offers up a very smooth gameplay experience. The other part of DLSS (along with Frame Generation) is upscaling, where the card is effectively rendering the images at a lower resolution and using AI models to 'upscale' to the target resolution. This is very effective and on most settings leads to very little noticeable image quality loss. The combination of all these features in DLSS leads to a very powerful toolbox of tricks to gain high framerates and quality on the most demanding of game titles. Another (often overlooked) feature is power consumption, which at 115W is tiny even compared to last generation (3060ti = 220W). When you have 3 boys gaming all hours they can, this becomes a factor! Not only that, it make the card easy to cool, I've yet to see a temperature over 65°C when stress testing this card. It also means there is a requirement for only a single 8pin PCIE power plug. With the nVidia 50 series of cards now launched, you may question the logic of a 4060 purchase. It's a question of value, the performance uplift to 5060 is minimal although the 50 series also offers 3x frame generation, which may be a factor. Catching a 4060 at the right price is key, as stocks are sold off - there are bargains to be had.
Review: Cool, quiet, and brilliant for 1080p and 1440p gaming! - I recently upgraded my GPU to the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK and it’s been an absolutely fantastic experience. If you're looking for a powerful, efficient card that handles modern gaming and productivity without breaking the bank (or your power supply), this one ticks all the boxes. Starting with the unboxing — it’s nicely presented, well-protected in anti-static packaging and foam, and comes with a quick start guide. The build quality is excellent. The all-black design is sleek and subtle, which fits nicely with most setups. The dual-fan layout looks clean, and it’s not overly bulky, so it fits comfortably in my mid-sized ATX case with room to spare. Installation was a breeze — standard PCIe slot, and it only requires a single 8-pin connector, which is great for power efficiency. Once plugged in, it was immediately detected, and drivers from NVIDIA installed without a hitch. I was up and running within minutes. Performance-wise, this thing is a dream for 1080p and very capable at 1440p too. I’ve been running titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Call of Duty: Warzone at high to ultra settings, and the card has handled them all at smooth frame rates. Ray tracing is a nice bonus — with DLSS 3, you can maintain solid performance even with all the bells and whistles turned on. Temperatures stay cool thanks to MSI’s TORX Fan 4.0 design — even under heavy load, I rarely see it go above 65°C. The fans are also quiet, barely audible during normal gameplay and silent at idle. If you’re building a quiet PC or streaming without background noise, this is ideal. In terms of power draw, it’s incredibly efficient — around 110–130W under load, which is brilliant for a current-gen card. No need to upgrade your PSU or worry about spikes. One small detail that might matter to some: there's no RGB lighting, but that’s a positive in my book — keeps things understated and power-efficient. Overall, this MSI RTX 4060 is a fantastic choice for anyone wanting solid 1080p/1440p performance, quiet operation, and great thermal efficiency. Highly recommended for gamers, streamers, and even light creators!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC Gaming Graphics Card - 8GB work in a motherboard with a pcie x16 lane?**
A: Hello. Yes this card will work in a PCIe 3 or PCIe 4 x16 slot.
Hope that helps.

**Q: How many case slots does it take up?**
A: On my case it took up two slots. It's actually quite a small card for its power level! I love the card! Runs silent and cool with minimal power draw.

**Q: Would this be suitable to the Ryzen 5 5600 To play sims 4?**
A: Yes, more than good enough for sims 4

**Q: Is this 2 x 8gb so 16gb total performance or just 8gb?**
A: It is actually 8GB overall, the 2x is the number of fans on the card. 8GB used to be okay but now these days it might not be enough.
I went for 12GB 4070 after upgrading from an 8GB 2080, but it depends on your financial situation.
