In contrast to other Musa species, it doesn't produce edible fruits. Its stem does also thicken more. Conspicuous are its beautiful, large and broad leaves. Origin: The Ethiopian banana was indigenous to Tropical Africa. It has, however, been naturalized on the Canary Islands, in southern Europe and South America since the 18th century. Propagation: The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. Roughen the extremely hard seeds with a file at a chosen spot and leave them to soak in water at room temperature for about 36 hours. This will speed up the germination process considerably. Plant the seeds about 2 cm deep into moist cultivation soil and leave a distance of 10 cm in between them. Keep the substratum evenly warm and moist, however not wet (danger of rotting) until germination. Place / Light: Bright and sunny places will guarantee optimal growth.
