There was no option to split them up, unless you cut the strip up (not really practical) **Q: how many of these will i need to put on my 6ft fence panel?** A: depends on width of top of panel. If one strip is wide enough then you'd only need 4 for each 6ft panel. I advise you to read the product description towards the bottom of the amazon page re removing anything that let's cat step onto top of fence. The idea is that they jump blind and get a nasty shock. As it says, cats can walk on most surfaces. It's the surprise that has the effect **Q: What are these made off and can I cut them?** A: Cut very easily and are made of hard plastic. If you look at the product description there is loads of detail and if you go on youtube and search 'Cactus well and fence spikes' it will give you further detail. Tough and very, very sharp.These are supplied as a strip of 3 rows of spikes. Breaking them apart to make 3 strips of 1 row of spikes is easy enough - just bend them and then pull them apart. But, wear good gloves..!These are fantastic fitted. You can hardly see them, so your home doesn’t look like a prison, which is what barbed wire looks like.
