There was no off putting smells given off by the silicone, nor was there any residue that it gave off. I have used this ladle for about a year now. Always hand washed [we don't use our dishwasher], and air dried. I tend to use this more gently than our wooden or metal ladles.Just today I was scooping out cold kimchi to make kimchi chigae [like a stew], when the stainless steel split. See pictures. I actually expected the silicone to give before the stainless steel handle.For the most part I am/was happy with this ladle, it had a hook at the top [some other brands don't and its a convenience point for me], the silicone has lasted a year of gentle use.
