It doesn't seem like a child's guitar at all. I'm quite small and it's very comfortable. If the specs are not on the Amazon page where it is sold, it should not be trusted. I bought the 400 when it came out and the 600 when the 500 was no longer available. If size is important, I would try one at a guitar or music store. **Q: The sound hole looks oval, not a circle. Is it round or is the sound hole oval shaped?** A: Sound Hole is oval. **Q: how thick is the width? and is this "real" wood or particle board?** A: The width is the same as my cell phone. The wood is solid of course. The top sides and back may be laminate but by no means is it some cheap "particle board".. Remember the cost is budget friendly and the materials are too. But Yamaha has a very nice sounding and playing guitar here for a very reasonable price. In my 40 years of playing is it the best..no..is it a great guitar for the price...Absolutely! **Q: Is this guitar fullsized?** A: It is a 22 fret acoustic/electric THIN bodied guitar. The overall length and height is that of a regular full sized guitar however it is only around 3-3.25 inches thick compared to a lot of others that range close to 5 inches thick. I been playing for around 30 years and for the last four or five years I been playing daily. When it showed up I checked it out and it was pretty much perfect. I got the blue one and its beautiful. Couldnt find any flaws in the finish and everything checked out. Straight neck, action is where I like it for an acoustic and the guitar plays very well. It light with no neck dive and easy to play. The sound of the guitar is very nice. I played some songs and goofed around with it for a while and kinda lost time. Well over an hour that first day and it was very enjoyable playing that guitar.I have around half a dozen acoustic guitars in my collection and one of them is a thinline like this one that I spent a lot of time playing. I find them more comfortable to play than the full size guitars.Ok, the one con I found with this guitar is they could of dressed the fret ends a lot better. There is just the whisper of fret rash. Its easy to take care of yet on a guitar of this caliber, you shouldnt have to. Yet it still deserves 5 stars for after playing it for a week I didnt discover the fret rash until today. I been running my left hand all over that fret board and never felt it until I ran my fingers down the fret ends today. Then I could feel just a hint of fret rash. Five seconds with a 600 grit sanding sponge and the fret rash is gone yet as I said, a guitar of this caliber/price point should need it out the box.Yet I am very happy with the guitar and would recommend it to anyone. Playing the guitar it is very easy to lose track of time, it is that enjoyable to play. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quite good for the price *by R***K on January 24, 2019* OK, well I'm a bass player who wanted a little acoustic guitar to mess around with. It needed to be $300 or less. This one came up with great reviews and so I just bought one sight unseenIt's really hard to believe that you can get a guitar of this quality and tone for this price. I have to give it 5 stars with an important caveat.What I like:Well built and solid. I particularly like the plastic edging around the body this keeps it from getting dents.Narrow body. I didn't want some big ole clunker for when I'm plunking around while watching movies.Really great sound, both as an acoustic and when plugged in. It's bright and full - very good steel string sound.The electric features are also very good. There are low, mid, and high tone controls for when plugged in. Also a volume control.The built in tuner is fabulous. Note that it works on AA batteries that are built into small pop out compartment that's built into the body. The tuner allows you the center the intonation very closely and easily. It's easy to always be in perfect tune. i'm not sure if the batteries are required to play amplified e. g. whether its active electric.The finish is cool - a greenish sort of blue sunburst. I also like the inlay around the sound hole.Seem like high quality machine heads. We'll see how they hold - not 100% sure yet, but i'll assume the bestProblem:Right out of the box the action was way too high.. To remedy this I changed the strings to a "light" set (.11 high E). This helped but not enough. So, I tried adjusting the truss rod. This also helped but the action was still to high for me. So, I very carefully removed the strings, removed and shaved the plastic bridge piece on the bottom - about 1 sixteenth of an inch. Then I worked to get the truss rod in a good position with the new lower string setting. I was also prepared to shave the nut which is also easily removable. As it turned out didn't have to take this step. Shaving the bridge and adjusting the truss was enough to bring it into a really really playable level of action - strings over frets. So, that was a lot to do and i had to be very careful doing it, but it's paid off. It now has really great action like a very good electric guitar that's been set up right.If you'r action is too high you might want to consider having an expert do this. if you do it yourself note that you have to be very very careful. Remember that you can always sand off more off the little plastic bridge piece but YOU CAN'T PUT IT BACK ON. So you might have to keep putting the strings back on and then taking them off until you've got it right.At this point i am very happy with this guitar. My only other comment is that, for me anyway, the neck is very narrow. I'm used to bass necks which are much wider or the strings are typically set further apart., I do have to get may fingers bunched up in a pretty tight configuration as for instance when playing a low A major chord. but that's probably just me. But don't expect a wide neck as on a typical nylon string classical guitar. This is more like a telecaster neck or maybe even a little more narrow than that.Again, for the money, its a really great choice and I highly recommend it with the noted caveat. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great guitar, great sound, great build quality. *by J***H on June 18, 2025* This thing is amazing! You won't regret it. Great sound, light weight but also sturdy. It's been a few years since I purchased a guitar and my prior one was a very inexpensive no-name Amazon special. This Yamaha is different (also ordered from Amazon), much better quality, came re-stringed with decent strings, tightened to about one note lower than actually being in tune, to stay protected during shipping, the strings were even pre-trummed and I had this thing tuned in less than a minute (always tug up slightly on your new strings after tuning and tune a 2nd time, prevents you from having to tune it 5 times.) Also, this must be in stock because it came in about 2 days, I was actually shocked how quickly it arrived. Packaging was great as well.
