I used zip-ties (separately purchased, not included with the bird spikes) to attach the spikes to a 2-foot piece of wood - makes it very easy move the spikes around as needed.Keep a good grip on the metal tines when installing on the metal strips, otherwise the springy action will make them fly across the room. It's easy to get the hang of it after you've installed a few.Note: The metal "spikes" aren't sharp, so there is no cruelty to assorted critters and varmints. They're not for "poke prevention", instead consider you're squeezing together metal prongs to 1/2 inch spacing that really want to be at 4inch spacing, and then squeezing and wiggling and adjusting to poke them in the metal strip holes, and push them through to the other side... about 100 times!That said, ASSEMBLY IS EASY, but my the pads of my fingers were so very sore the next two days, and Im no stranger to working with my hands.After reading several reviews, I opted to use twine to fix these in place, tied to decking cross beams. They are used on top of the crossbeam space under my deck to prevent robins from nesting on the paired 2x12s at my back door again.
