## Description

KEEP YOUR SMALL PETS HAPPY AND HEALTHY WITH FINEST ALFALFA HAY Pets deserve the best nutrition and care. Especially, when they are small and rapidly growing, it is vital to choose the best food to support their nutrition demands. We, at ‘High Desert Small Animal Feed' are committed to the nourishment and well-being of your small pets. Rich in Vitamins, Proteins, Calcium, Fats, and Fiber, our green Alfalfa hay is a perfect food for young rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and ferrets. It promotes appetite, aids in digestion, and helps the animals grow healthy muscles and bones. It's high calcium content also makes it a great supplement for pregnant and nursing rabbits. The sweet taste and nice smell are relished by pets of all ages. Best suited for guinea pigs younger than 6 months, baby rabbits younger than 7 months, and chinchillas younger than a year. Make sure that you transition your older pets to grass hay slowly after they turn 7 months. Although it can't be the main food, you can feed this to the bigger animals as an occasional treat or supplement. WHAT’S INCLUDED: (1) Alfalfa Hay PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS: Quantity: 1lb Color: Green Packaging: Cardboard FROM SEED TO FEED - GROWN WITH PET’S NEEDS IN MIND Since 1918, our family has been invested in the farming business and we are the fourth generation that has mastered the art of growing Alfalfa. We grow, inspect, harvest, and hand-pack the chopped alfalfa hay stacks in breathable cardboard boxes to retain its freshness. The boxes can also double up as hay feeder or hay bedding for baby rabbits as our Alfalfa is super tender and soft to sleep in. With little to no dust, this large box of rabbit hay will last you a while and keep your baby pet healthy and happy.

Review: This is not cheap alfalfa hay, so I was dismayed at the size of the box when it arrived. I needn't have been as we are only now running out--after 8 weeks. They really pack it into the box, so you get more than you think (compared to the big box alfalfa hay). You definitely get value for your money. I am back today to get on the subscription plan because this stuff is just SO.MUCH.BETTER than store bought. The quality is excellent with the hay being very fresh. It's weed free, bright green, smells lovely and has no off odors, mildew or mold. I have terrible allergies (which are not made happy by a guinea pig in the house!), but this hay does not trigger my asthma like dusty, store bought alfalfa does. And while there are wisps and straggly bits of plant material, there is very little dust. We use a tiny, wooden hay rick contraption to hold the hay, keeping it both contained as well as out of the shavings and poop zone. [Seen on desertcart, search "andwe Hay Feeder Less Wasted Wooden Food Feeding Rack for Rabbit Guinea Pig Chinchilla - Standing Pet-self Feeding Hay Manager"] Dumpling free feeds as he needs to, and seems very happy with his new alfalfa supply.
Review: Hay came nicely packaged, small cut with lots of leafy parts which seem to be my buns favorite parts. It is surprisingly very green, but firm. We have a picky 4 month old bun that has been for whatever reason refusing to eat a lot of the other brand alfalfa hay I put out. Since, buns go into GI stasis when they don't eat often, we were seriously worried. He loved it. As soon as I opened the box he started eating it. I would have given it 5 stars but I didn't realize how small of box I ordered.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you use pesticides Or herbicides? Is it organic?**
A: The hay that we offer is pesticide-free. We would like to add that a common misconception is that organic means pesticide-free, however, this is not the case at all. Organic does not mean pesticide-free and pesticide-free does not mean organic. Since the term organic is merely a marketing label that is arbitrary and the requirements vary widely from state to state, we don't want to restrict the tools available to us to preserve our farm's sustainability. We pride ourselves in using sustainable farming techniques such as using compost as fertilizer, grazing, crop rotations, testing our soils, and using one-pass tillage implements in order to minimize our farm's carbon emissions.

**Q: What is the best way to store the Alfalfa Hay?**
A: The best way to store Alfalfa Hay is to fold the flaps of the cardboard box over one another and put the box in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Airtight packaging is not recommended. Hay should be able to breathe to avoid molding or fermentation.

**Q: It it normal for the hay to feel extremly dry? I purchased a 1lb box ans compared to other hay that comes in a bag it is extremly dry.**
A: Hi Brandon, we are sorry that you were not satisfied with our hay. We see that we did not get off on the right foot but we think that if you give us a chance we can make it up to you. We are not perfect but we are always learning and striving to be a little bit better each day than we were the day before. One thing our great-grandpa passed down through the generations was admitting our mistakes and taking ownership of them. Please reach out to us at tania@highdesertfeeds.com and we are more than happy to hear how we can improve and we will do our level best to make things right. Growing alfalfa is our livelihood and our family has learned a lot from farming alfalfa on the same ground through the generations. However, we admit that we are new to the small animal market and we are constantly improving our product and our processes as we make mistakes, receive feedback, and grow.

**Q: Ferrets are Carnivores why are they listed on this product, also it's not good for adult rabbits either?**
A: Dont feed it to your ferrets or adult bunnies. All adult bunnies come from baby bunnies. Alfalfa is imperative to Young rabbits.

Both of my guinea pigs did not care for this very much a little like a bunch of yard-raking's, poor condition.
