They are flat piece of good card stock paper and they do look real. But birds are smart and only stayed away for a few days. I took them down for a couple of days and glued some googley eyes on them before I put them back out in my garden and they sun would reflect off of the plastic eyes. I could see birds sitting on the fence nervously thinking about approaching the garden. I have one owl propped inside my tomato cage and this is the first year I have had tomatoes grow to full size with no damage from the birds. The owls are light weight and blow when the wind blows them so I like that they move around. They have a small bell attached to them. I don’t really hear the bells, but they give the owls a little weighted balance . They haven’t really faded or been damaged by light rain or heavy sun.
