This actually is excellent, because it greatly reduced sharp edges from the lid, and reduces the chances of any contamination (dirt, dust, etc…) that might have accumulated on the lid from getting inside the can. Additionally, because the top of the can and seam pop off - if you washed and dried the lid and container, you could probably re-use the cans for storage of other items, or for covert/secret storage. The cost was far below other can openers, and this can opener worked far better than other can openers we tried at the same price point. Highly recommended - this is now our go-to can opener. We like it much better than the other much more expensive name brand can openers that come in a variety of colors. One of my favorite features is that it leaves the edge of the lid smooth and rounded after opening the can, eliminating the sharp metal edges that can easily cause cuts with traditional can openers. I'm not sure how the mechanism works, but the engineering behind it is impressive. The handle is ergonomic and comfortable to grip, and opening a can requires very little effort. It has worked well with every type of can I've tried so far. If you're concerned about accidentally cutting yourself on sharp can lids, I highly recommend this product.
