They are silky. My thighs could start a fire by rubbing together and I have no problem with these. **Q: Is the fit strong compression, or does the fit have a somewhat billowy give to them?** A: It is a comfortable fit on me. They are not overly strong in waist area. Others I’ve purchased are much too tight in the waist. Next one I buy will be longer in the thighs. **Q: What fabric are they?** A: 77% Nylon, 23% Spandex per the information I see on line for their product. It feels like silk. The panty has a small cotton liner not mentioned in the product description. I am a breast cancer survivor having had a left breast lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node surgery 2 years ago. I have been wearing shapermint compression camis or front zip sports bras due to post-op recovery, lymphedema, and scaring until now. It was not until after going through treatment and surgery that I now have a belly and I am super self-conscious about it. I decided to give this Vanity Fair shaping bra a try. I ordered a size large despite the sizing chart and it fits very well. I could use a little higher for underarm overhang, but this is better than most. I like the support the cups offer as well as some modesty with nipple coverage. While this shaper offers some compression it can only go so far. My photos show there is still a crease in my back and my belly still sticks out, but it helps to keep it smoother. Some reviews mention the stitching under the cups to be very itchy and I did inspect this upon arrival. I can feel the stitching, and it is a bit uncomfortable, but not any worse than any other bra I’ve had. I need the support the cups offer so I am keeping it and will possibly add another at sometime in the future. Like any other I have tried, it will roll up, so I plan to tuck it in. It is very long which one photo shows it comes well over my hips. The straps are wide and adjustable.
