She had been able to protect women in these books but this one seems to be more about protecting herself. The book was first published in 2024. It has 383 pages split into 80 chapters. In the Prologue there is a bloody death scene described by someone in the room. We presume they have murdered the victim as the narrator literally has blood on their hands. Of course, at this stage we have no clues about either person. Millie narrates most of the book and she is a really strong character who never leaves you in any doubt about what she is thinking. Her humour and vulnerabilities both come across clearly. It's a very easy book to read and the plot whips along really quickly. The story is full of people lying (including Millie) and it is fun for the reader to try to work out how much of it is true. There is another narrator who takes over for a while, towards the end and gives the story a major twist. The plot is completely ridiculous and won't stay in my head for long.
