The grips are decent and after a few months of use, there's no sign of wear in any way. With a single weight on each side, the lock ring holds very well, and I just need to give it a quick check every few uses, just to be sure. With more than one weight each side, the lock ring needs tightening often, but it's not really a major issue to do that, so no big drama I don't think. Oh, I noted some reviews of similar products mentioned a smell - I'm happy to report that these don't smell, so I guess they are well suited to the (corner of) the living room...
