The white inner ring over the blades needs to be gently pulled off. Once off, you'll notice two notched out areas that must be aligned to put this ring back in place. I wasn't quite sure how to remove that piece either, but once removed, it makes sense. Good luck. **Q: Will it remove cat and dog hair?** A: I think that would depend upon the fabric that you were working with.
