When you are sucking in alot of fluid as sometimes happens, if the clear catch basin gets full quickly it gets sucked up underneath the clear plastic part and the yucky goop squirts out of a tiny ventilation hole on the top of the white handle when you are using it. It's pretty gross when that spits onto your face as you are trying to clean out your little ones nose.
