Harmonica Songbook: American Folk Songs

Good book with good songs. However it has 2 shortcomings. First, this songbook includes Dixie. This song was not written as a folk song, but written as a blackface minstrels song around the 1850s. Very negative and horrifying history from the pre-civil war/pro-slavery era in the South. I won't play it and wish a real American folk song had been included instead. Second, one of my favorite songs, Cluck Old Hen, only includes the lyrics of the first verse. Seems kind of lame when you see all the unused space in the book. Disappointed that I'll have to hand-write the lyrics beyond the 1st verse. Overall, I like the book, and had I known these 2 problems I would probably still have bought it for the many good songs which include multiple verses of lyrics.

could have picked better tab style that is easier to understand, songs are vague in description and tableture

Great book

Some of the melodies are archaic, but this is a bargain. You get the music notation, harmonica tabs, guitar chords and lyrics. There are many great folk songs and these are classics and fun to play. The print is a little small, but the layout is well designed.I wish there were audio tracks. Often Mel Bay includes a bare bones recording accessible on the Internet. I wouldn’t mind paying a little more for some reference recordings.

Prima Songbook, man muß keine Noten lesen können,da alles zusätzlich auch in Harp Notierung vermerkt ist. Ist endlich mal was Anderes als Hänschenklein und Oh Susanna für den Anfänger. Gute Abwechslung und tolles Übungsmaterial, für den Preis absolut empfehlenswert.
