The mat did not have any sort of smell, and that was very welcomed and appreciated. The reason I am giving this a 3 star rating has to do with the slip factor. I got on the mat shortly after opening, and laid the mat down with the white logo facing up. As soon as I got in downward dog, my hands started to slide out from under me.. I realized that the other side of the mat has a different texture, a grooved sort of texture, and maybe that side was the side for inversions, standing postures etc. The next day, I unrolled the mat to try the other side, and I am still sliding. I'm unhappy that it advertises being non slip, and BOTH sides of the mat are slippery. I urge those who are reading this review to PLEASE heed the warning of this mat being slippery, because it is true. The mat does look nice, and as I stated before had no odor.
