Besides the character names and a loose resemblance made to the storyline there is nothing really that corresponds between the book and the TV show. In the book we meet a bunch of witches. Joanna, Freya and Ingrid who are suffering under punishment and are no longer allowed to use their magic. They live in a small town where strange events start happening. Children get ill and are unable to get better. A deadly silver poison appears in the ocean and kills of local fish. Around the same time all three witches decide to start using a little bit of power to help those around them. Freya creates potent love cocktails, Ingrid helps the local women with ailment, rashes and infertility and Joanna uses her magic to animate toys and fix burnt pies. When people start dying or disappearing, the locals quickly blame the witches for their bad luck and they are brought into the local police station for questioning. Overall, the book was enjoyable and super easy to read. I'm disappointed that it only has a passing resemblance to the TV show. Having said that, it is great in its own right. I will be reading the next book in the series, the Serpent's Kiss. ### ⭐⭐ Do not bother *by F***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 July 2014* This book started really well and rapidly declined in quality. If you like torrid descriptions of other peoples sexual exploits you may like parts of this book, but if you are looking for clever originality in a story line and believable characterisation, then like me, you are going to be disappointed. I limped to the end of the book purely because I didn't have anything else to read.The book did not read as if this was an established author with many tales under her belt, whatever she was trying to achieve, she did not do herself or her book justice.Don't bother unless you are really bored. ### ⭐⭐ Dissapointing Read. *by M***D on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 February 2017* Disappointing. Enjoyed the series on Netflix and had hoped the book would have more depth and background, but it didn't. The characters were very different from the series and the storyline had obviously been changed for the tv series too.
