My Coon is a senior with health problems now and she doesn't groom as well as she used to. When her fur became matted I had to help with the process. Groomers were out of the question as she is not a people cat and I worked for her being mishandled if she got cranky with the groomer. I thought of a scissors but even a childs blunt point scissors wouldn't cut through the mats and a pointed one was out of the question for a squirmy cat. I found this shaver and tried it but was apprehensive since the noise could upset any animal. This shaver worked like a charm! It isn't too loud and it is strong enough to cut into the thick mats of fur. My Coon loved the feel of it and rolled over for me to do her tummy. Now that's a miracle because she doesn't typically like being fussed with. I shaved her tummy and sides where the fur is thick; thanks to the guides I was able to cut the mats off and still leave some fur on her so she wasn't shaved all the way to skin. I was so happy she purred her way through it! This shaver was inexpensive and I didn't have much faith in a cheaper product to get through the mats but this did and did a great job.
