Painted it silver/aluminum. Glued two of the inserts to the end cap pieces, and it works great for a safe prop at anime and comic conventions. It's light, the foam is pretty durable as long as you aren't actually scrapping it on rough surfaces. Coat it in plastidip or treated paint if you want a different color than black.
