First off, I had not anticipated how visually imposing this system looks in my kitchen. If I were ordering again, I would get the Travel Berkey instead of Big Berkey. I had read about leaks in other reviews, so when mine leaked I knew to re-tighten the spout. That worked. I did the initial preparation steps. When filtering water, after 4 hours filtering there was still not enough in lower chamber to come out when spout was open. This is VERY slow to filter. The spout is a bit slow also. Sometimes it trickles, sometimes comes out a bit better. It may have to do with how much water is in the lower chamber. If I truly had a water problem, I would keep it. It would be nice to have purer water, but I the imposing look, and slow filtering and slow flow from spout have made it unsuitable for me. I returned mine after 2 days. If I get another, it would be the Travel Berkey. Return was simple except instructions that said to attach "required commercial invoice". I searched for info online and then just asked at UPS. It filters out most contaminants. Their website will give you all the technical info. It is an on counter filter and you do need to fill it up as you take filtered water out. Knowing this, my husband and I keep it up and running. The water tastes so much better but I am most happy knowing that I am not ingesting harmful chemicals. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gravity water filter system *by J***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2013* The Big Berkey arrived only an half hour ago and it is now sitting on my kitchen counter filtering the first batch of "waste" water. After the first batch is discarded you then can use your filtered water.This is a fairly solid water system in that it is stainless steel. The tap is really just an inferior piece of plastic that does not look like it will stand up to constant use. We shall see.Overall, it was easy to clean and assemble. As to the quality of the water, that, too, is still to be seen.....or tasted.July 1stSo far we are pleased with the quality of the Berkey System and the taste of the filtered water. It no longer has that strong bleach smell that we have unhappily grown accustomed to, and, knowing that we are not drinking klonopin, prozac and welbutrin makes us ecstatic ( along with all the other sordid toxins in the water ). I recommend this water filter for the very tough times ahead.
