How these work - you fasten the seat belt then you wrap the extension on the back of the harness around the shoulder strap of the seat & clip the harness strap closed. This means that the harness bit can slide up & down the seat belt strap & also if the dog doesn't move too fast & activate the seat belt inertia mechanism, there is plenty of play for the dog to stand up, lie down, turn around. However, in the event of a sudden stop or whatever, the built in inertia of the main seat belt kicks in & prevents the dog being flung forward. Dead clever! Best of both worlds. Unlike the other harnesses I have tried this doesn't require the seat belt to be done up to use it & this means your dog can move about with ease without getting tangled. It is not so good as a walking harness though as the back strap, that clips around the seat belt, even when done up is a little to long for a dog that walks to heal.
