As an experienced IT professional, you can move around the book easily. You're not gonna be building large corporate systems from this book. "Beginning" is in the title for a reason, so don't expect anything really complex or in-depth, but there is sufficient detail to get you familiar with the tools and controls. I would use this book over doing an instructed course. Also look at  Beginning ASP.NET 4: in C# and VB (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) .I found few errata. It even works well with VS2010. There are not that many changes that invalidate the content in the book from 2008. All up.. It will teach you C# fundamentals, common web development practices and principles, the basic of web forms and its controls, ADO.NET and data-biding control (grid view, list view and form view), asp.net configuration and caching.In my professional life I've used this book to teach others to work in the .NET framework (both desktop and web) since ti covers technologies which are not ASP.NET specific (such as C#, XML, ADO.NET) and thanks to .NET designers ingenuity developers who have grasped web.forms fundamentals will quickly learn to use the win.forms framework effectively. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a good buy *by L***S on Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2011* This book is quite good for a specific type of person; Namely, that person that is familiar with some other programming language to the point that they do not need in depth handling of the more general concepts such as control statements, looping constructs, etc. In spite of the word "Beginning" being in the name, this book is not geared towards a person completely new to programming. On the back cover it explains that it "...targets experienced software professionals and/or students of computer science...". Don't let that scare you though; If you have taken a basic Computer Science beginners programming course or two, or are familiar with the basics from some other programming language, you will find this book sufficient to give you a good introduction to not only the C# language, but .Net as well. At over 1300 pages, there is ample space to cover a lot of what is a very large subject topic (C# & .Net). The book is well laid out, and I have not found too many typos (though I did find one code example written in vb.net as opposed to c#!). If you are entirely new to Object Oriented Programming, some of the subject matter might take you a little bit more work to understand, but I still think the book is a solid 5, as there are ample code examples, with (in my opinion) good explanations.
