The blade is the part that cuts. Sadly, I did not receive a 7" blade but a 3 & 3/8" blade. The length of the whole blade + the handle is approximately 8". The length in which they open up completely where they rest on the thumb guards is 7". I'm planning to refute the product due to this problem and see if they'll send me the proper blade length because I didn't get what was advertised. Just be wary. The size of the finger holes is 7/8" in diameter.
