It was made waterproof at the bottom by putting a film at the bottom that prevents water to infiltrate, but that film can be torn very easily on a stone, and mine came with being damaged. I did not return it because I live in LA where it rains rarely, so I can use it without an issue outdoors. The top cover is soft, so it is good for sitting. Note that it is waterproof (if not damaged) from the bottom, not at top.
