Review: Distorsión de imagen - No es tan bueno como esperaba, distorsiona la imagen mas de lo normal.
Review: Handy portable zoom kit addition - I have a Pixel 8 Pro. While I also have a full frame Sony alpha 7r4 camera, I often find myself using my phone for casual and portable photography…”the camera you have with you…”. I was interested in how this Neewer rig would work for me. I have the Neewer Pixel 8 Pro camera cage with the 17mm threaded backplate compatible with the Neewer HD 17mm telephoto lens. I am also using the Neewer Bluetooth attachable handle and shutter trigger, although this is not necessary. I like that trigger extension for handling, carrying, and somewhat easier picture taking. My first use showed observations specific to the Pixel 8 Pro and the use of the Neewer cage and lens. The 17mm threaded cage plate for the Neewer blocks the middle macro lenses on the back of the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel based 50 MP and digital telephoto lens are still available. During use, the phone will try to switch to macro mode with the Neewer telephoto extender attached and the screen will blank out (even intermittently as the phone tries to find the right lens and focus mode). When that macro symbol pops up, you need to touch it and disable auto macro mode. The other thing to know is that the Pixel switches from the 50MP lens to the internal telephoto lens at 5x, so for maximum optical telephoto range with the Neewer telephoto lens you need to stay at 4.9x. If you jump to 5x and above you move to the alternate lens and a digital telephoto mode not the optical mode provided by the external telephoto lens. For best image quality, lock and set the Pixel camera mode to HD 50MP image quality, otherwise 2x2 “pixel binning” (a common form of image compression) is in play. The first question that comes to mind is when you are using the Neewer telephoto lens “what is your actual zoom?” Pleasingly, established with a comparison of the optical lens and the internal Pixel digital telephoto, the max appears to be 7x added to the maximum (Pixel) optical throw of 4.9x. It is additive not multiplicative, adding 2.6x more to the maximum provided by the Pixel, about 12x optical. While I am a full frame camera person, this kind of optical math confused me, thinking maybe it was multiplicative rather than additive but some test pictures between the Pixel 4.9x and with the Neewer add-on convinced me it could not be 28x optical! The second question is “do I need a tripod” when using a telephoto lens. At most zoom ranges, the answer is generally “Yes, you need some form of stabilization for optimal focus.” Cellphones are harder to handle than a camera, and harder to keep steady. And, TAKE NOTE (!) using this lens requires MANUAL FOCUS. Auto focus just does not work. I found that at greater distances you can focus once and mostly go (see my deer images), but closer in you needed to stop and focus. The Neewer cage will allow the attachment of a tripod or mount plate with standard mounting screws. You can get by with a small portable (cheap) tripod that you could position against your body to get some stabilization, but it is not always ideal. That said, if you back off on the zoom you can get decent pictures without a tripod. The third question. Does it take good pictures? Generally, yes. Certainly, the additional optical zoom is appreciated. Focus, as noted above is always a concern. Direct comparison shows optical zoom photos with the telephoto Neewer do not fall apart when viewing and zooming in on a finished image as readily as the digital zoom (5x and above) lens provides. Optical clarity was good. Depending on the background, some contrast fringing was observed, but I was satisfied with the results a majority of the time. One thing I really liked about using the attachable lens in the field was that it is easily removed and pocketed, especially if you wanted to pull the Neewer backplate off to use the macro function on the Pixel. Is it worth it? I think it is. It certainly adds a bit more to your portable kit, and is something you can have with you more easily than a full-size camera. For hiking? Perfect. For certain wildlife photos, specifically birds… I still prefer my full frame auto focus, quick to use and handle “without a tripod” Sony a7r. 4/5.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Ok
*by M***R on March 15, 2024*

It works pretty good except for a hallo affect and a glare that seeps in the corner. Be aware if you are taking it off and on by unscrewing it, it leaves dust on your lens. Paint from the threads wearing off.
