A: yes, but I generally suggest you do it again like with any cast iron

A: No

**Q: How does the wood stand-up when the hot plate is placed on it?**
A: When cooking with the cast iron plate, the metal gets very hot.  The wooden platter is designed to hold this.  Naturally, the wood will change color with the heat.  Sometimes very dark brown or even char color.  Its natural and expected with this type of cooking.
