The Ideal Harwood Floor Chair Base
I have for some time now been using a very nice leather office chair that I purchased from Amazon, unfortunately these type of chairs are supplied with the castors on the base. Anyone with an expensive hardwood floor fitted in the office will not want to use these and the usual method of dealing with these is to use castor cups with the felt pads stuck to the base and the castors sit in the cups. In principle this works most of the time, but on occasion especially when you are in a hurry doing twenty things at once, you will pull the chair to one side and usually one or more of the cups comes off the castors. When I received delivery of the chair and assembled it I was thinking at the time as I pushed the castors into the five base supports of the chair, does nobody supply an alternative....?Well I did look at the time, but could not find any alternative, that is until just recently when the gas strut started to fail in the chair, when looking on Amazon for a suitable replacement I came across these High Quality Replacement Chrome Glides for castors, I immediately ordered them and also the replacement gas strut. I was surprised to find that they are very good quality for the price and the push in grip ring that fits into the base are all swivel jointed, they appear to be made from metal and are all quality chrome plated, with a soft compound type cushion on the base for your floor. To fit them you simply lie the chair on its side and pull out the original castors and push in the replacement glides it only took a couple of minutes.I have been using the new gliders for a couple of weeks now and have found them to be excellent quality and have had no problem whatsoever as they are a quality fitting. The only thing that should be considered is that they are a much smaller height than the captors and if you have a small gas strut fitted then you are going to loose some height from the chair as the castors that I removed were 58mm below the base and the new glides were approximately 20mm, this is a loss of 38mm in height, but this should not matter in most cases as most office chairs struts should cater for this. The other factor that should be considered is the diameter of the original grip ring on the castors, this can easily be measured by pulling one of the castors out to size this dimension. I would highly recommend these replacement chrome glides as they are high quality and do exactly what they say and to top it all they are attractive and lower profile than the castors they are replacing.

i bought the chair for my mother but the only problem was she was bad on her legs and had no balance
bought these for the homcom swivel executive computer office chair that i bought earlier. i bought the chair for my mother but the only problem was she was bad on her legs and had no balance, so i got these little gems to stop her rolling the chair, and help her get out of it. worked a treat. just take the roller casters off, then put the glides on. works a treat and so easy to do. also does not leave any marks on the carpet.

The gliders don't actually glide!
I bought these to replace the castors supplied on a new office chair which is used on a thick carpet.Ordinarily, I would use a carpet protector, but none of the ones I've purchased have lasted more than two weeks, as the carpet is obviously too plush for a "thick carpet protector," even after spending as much as £60.On thick carpets, even castors have difficulty in moving and will rip through them eventually. Therefore, I thought I'd give these castors a go.Check your chair before ordering through, because if it has a gas strut that sits low between the chair leg frame, the gliders will make it even lower, to the degree that it drags on the floor.I was changing my chair anyway, so made sure that the gas strut was high and didn't descend below the frame at all.The gliders don't really glide on carpet, due to a rubber or plastic finish on the bottom. If they were chrome metal, it would possibly make it easier to move the chair. Personally, I'm not that bothered about it not moving much, since the chair swivels anyway.Note though, that on a thick carpet, you still get indentations where the chair has been positioned, but at least it won't rip the carpet.

Perfect 'standard' fit for replica Eames office chair
Bought these to replace carpet rollers on a replica Eames office chair - took a punt as they were described as having a 'standard fitting' - very happy to find that they fit perfectly and look very nice. Very quick and efficient delivery.

Castors don't run on carpet. Glider option.
These Gliders looked good and enabled the Office Chair to move easily over the new carpet, when finally fitted. However, the glider spindles were a few mm to large for the Ikea chair, so I had to widen each hole with a dremel. The gliders then knocked in but the height of the chair was reduced so the central chair spindle was touching the floor. This was resolved by packing the central tube so the chair spindle was fixed about 30 mm higher, thus clearing the carpet. More installation work than envisaged but a perfect result in the end.

Not a good fit.
Did not fit my office chair - too short. Metal pole in centre of chair touched the floor because the casters were much shorter than the original ones. Also didn't like the hard plastic base on the gliders, over time I would think they would scratch the floor as badly as the casters they replaced.
