SplatMat is made out of vinyl, and it is non-toxic and phthalate free. **Q: Is this mat slip resistant? Does it bunch up?** A: Yes it bunches terribly I could never get it to lay flat. No it is not slip resistant. **Q: Is this machine washable?** A: I washed it in the machine on warm and it was fine. As others say, though, it is usually easy enough to wipe clean. **Q: Is this mat really Bpa and phthalate free as described in the product details? Does the box it comes in say it is?** A: I am not sure. I put it outside for a week before I put it in the house to air out just in case. It is really durable and it's pretty too. It gives good coverage for when my son likes to be carefree and just toss his spoon over the side of his highchair (we have the Ikea Antilop) after filling it with food. It's also great at catching the loose pieces that fall down into his lap and out the leg holes. It's a good size and catches 99% of what falls. If your kid has a good arm though, I'd still recommend avoiding carpet. It's not super heavy which makes it easy to pack. We just brought ours with us on a weekend trip and it folded up nicely (like a thinner towel) into our suitcase. It's also really easy to clean with a washcloth and dries quickly.On top of that, it looks decent in our house and looks good when we have company over so I don't feel like I need to stash it away in the pantry. We got the blue feather pattern and it's a blue with grey undertones, which we love. The new one is good, I do think they need to fold the mat less tightly because it gets too compressed. BUT this is an awesome mat!! Reasonably priced compared to the competition and just a much much better print. I love how it says, so what's your super power and its so easy to clean. Its pretty enough to be left at its place all day and the baby can use it as a safe crawling space. We have a carpet so we put it on the carpet, and then his gumbo on top and he can have a field day with his food and the surface area of this mat is large. Obviously I eventually expect my LO to be able to throw his food outside the range but till then, totally sorted!
