You can write upside down with it, if you should need such a thing. Actually useful though, you could write using a wall as the work surface for your pad. More importantly, it provides even, consistent and reliable ink-flow throughout the life of the cartridge. If you've ever had a pen explode or crap-out on you when you needed it, you'll understand the value of this.The other major selling point is the sturdy metal case, which both protects the pen well and adds some weight for smoother writing.They also look kind of cool.Two notes on this particular pen: First, it may not be obvious from the photo, but the length closed is about 2/3's of a normal pen length. When you put the cap on the other end, it is a normal length. Second, the pocket clip is a little tight. The pen is certainly more secure in your pocket, but you can't just slip it in; you'll have to take an extra second to work it into your pocket.So, tough, compact and reliable.
