Review: Rugged Sports Automatic With Nice Build Quality But Is It Swiss? - Apparently Formex is a modern Swiss company founded in the late 1990s. Although they have a web presence there is not much about this particular watch so I assume it is an older model now discontinued maybe. It is big (around 46mm diameter) and very heavy (130g) with lots of presence. It sits quite high (16mm)on the wrist which makes it difficult to wear if you wear shirts with cuff links, but it has a very comfy two tone silicon strap which is very pliable...a nice bit of design is the small rollers on the buckle which allow the buckle to glide over the otherwise grippy rubber of the strap. The face is very large, clear and easy to read with broadsword shaped hands and a simple red sweep hand. The date window is at 6 o'clock. The booklet says that the movement is Swiss but this is not marked on the watch anywhere...I would be suprised if the automatic mechanism is indeed Swiss as it moves the sweep hand with quite a stuttering beat rate and it seems to sometimes stop for a second when you shake it to wind it. Info about the inner workings of this model are ambiguous and difficult to establish, and quite honestly the the lack of "Swiss Made" on the dial leads me to believe not one piece of this particular model has been anywhere near Switzerland...companies are not usually so coy about plastering the Swiss label on the product where they can, unless Formex are very cool and low key...perhaps someone might enlighten me! That said it has a very high quality finish. The case is 100m water resistant so suited to a sport or outdoor lifestyle. It is also an uncommon brand so I have yet to come across anyone else wearing one....which I like. The box is the most fantastic padded leather and beautiful. To summarise, a very nicely put together easy to read big automatic watch with sports styling that would suit a big wrist but still looks at home on my puny 19cm circumference wrist. It keeps really good time and is currently running 45 seconds fast in per week.
