I'm not a tradesman, but it should be excellent for plumb bobs and similar general uses: it is strong, soft (no kinks), holds a knot well (but then harder to untie), and doesn't fray as easily as the twisted version. It is something like the inner strands of paracord, but braided. **Q: Is it coated with plastic** A: It is not plastic coated. Just made of nylon so it does not rot. I criss crossed it to make a cucumber trestle worked great. **Q: Does this work well outdoors? I want to use it in the garden where it will be exposed to sunlight for months.** A: Nylon breaks down in sunlight, but it will take a long time. "Long" is a relative term. Nylon is considered UV resistant. This will work well, but may need to be replaced in a few (2-5?
