Review: Perfect phone - We love this phone. Everything works great and all you have to do is connect it to the phone line and outlet. The caller ID worked right away, the answering machine works great. I would recommend this phone to everyone. Very aimple to figure out and the numbers are big enough to read.
Review: Brand new, very nice, 100% as described, carefully packaged shipment, too...Very easy set up! - Arrived brand new, carefully packaged and shipped...I took it out of the box...all parts complete...Best of all, I set it up, programmed it, plugged it in...tested it out, all within 15-20 minutes! I made a call from my cell phone to test the answering machine and it worked perfectly...Large, well lit display and large easy to read numbers. The only slight issue is the volume could be a bit louder on both the ringer and the voice mail...For me, it's no big deal but my husband is hearing impaired and it might be a slight issue for him, although ---only if he's upstairs out of range. All said, this phone will work perfectly for us as our land line and answering machine...also, I did not have any trouble mounting it on my wall jack...it does stick out from the wall a tiny bit but definitely not a deal breaker...Bottom line, this is exactly what I wanted and needed to replace my 10 year old ATT phone, which still worked fine but I wanted the answering machine feature.

**Q: What are the "2 non-standard batteries required"?  Will phone work in a power failure?**
A: That description about "2 non-standard batteries" appears to be in error.The manual for this phone is available at http://cdn-media-att.vtp-media.com/ecp/documents//product_Product/1889//8359/CL4940_UM_6.pdf.  If you look through the manual carefully, you will see that it specifies a power adapter, but makes no mention of batteries.On page 13 of the manual, it says:This telephone provides minimal functionality during a power failure. When AC power is not available, the screen is blank and many telephone features do not function. Only touch-tone dialing and handset volume adjustment are supported. The telephone uses power from the telephone line to enable you to make and answer calls using only the handset and dialing keys.

**Q: can you record your own voice for this answer machine or do you have to use pre-recorded message provided by mfg.**
A: You have a choice of using the automatic announcement or you can make your own by pressing Menu Select. Press it again and select Answering System. Then press ID or DIR to select "Record New" The system will tell you to announce your message, then press 5 when you are done. Then your own announcement will play. To listen to your own announcement again, scroll to "Play Current" and press Menu/Select. You can always change your message or go back to the recorded announcement. Just do things in reverse. The recorded announcement is a permanent part of the system, so you don't have to worry about it being deleted. Hope this helps.  Regards, Paul

**Q: Is the LCD display light always on or just when callings are coming through or in use?**
A: The light is only on when a call comes through and in use. Once you hang up it turns off.

Arrived brand new, carefully packaged and shipped...I took it out of the box...all parts complete...Best of all, I set it up, programmed it, plugged it in...tested it out, all within 15-20 minutes! I made a call from my cell phone to test the answering machine and it worked perfectly...Large, well lit display and large easy to read numbers. The only slight issue is the volume could be a bit louder on both the ringer and the voice mail...For me, it's no big deal but my husband is hearing impaired and it might be a slight issue for him, although ---only if he's upstairs out of range. I wanted to get rid of my cordless/answering combo and have a hanging phone again. The hanging was simple, I would suggest a command strip if you do not have a top & bottom nail,screw or plate with 2 hangers. Phone will swing. The answering machine was easy to set up... if you read the instructions! Do not use the up & down arrows like I did, use the number pad. I had to do the date 3 times before I caught on and read the instructions because I couldnt change it from AM to PM. I didnt enter any lists, the answering machine is easy to use. The listen to messages blinks!! Easy! One thing ...ORDER A DSL FILTER if you order this phone & do not have one already. I had a screeching noise on the answering machine, because my router/modem, it is a thing, even though it is not close to the phone & on it's own jack. The hand set is a nice weight, I was glad it was not the lightweight ones, the back light is great, the name of the phone stays on the phone as mentioned, but the backlight goes off so I do not see it and it does not bother me. It looks really nice flat as well. I got the black one. I really like this phone.
