Trying to transition from the bottle** A: It depends on your toddler but ours had no problem laying back with the cup. The liquid won't come out unless they suck on it which is similar to a nipple on a bottle. The liquid will flow out if they chew on the spout and break the valve that controls the flow. That's why it's important to not let them chew on the spouts and why Nuby says that children should be supervised when using a sippy cup.
