However, the quality of the wood isn’t the best. The wood is dry and sometimes breaks easily when you put the screws in. Once assembled, it’s a little flimsy, but it holds up pretty well. We’ve had it for eight months now, and our kitties are happy—they use it all the time. It was relatively easy for two people to put together. In the end, we chose to seal the wood with a water-repellent spray. We also placed it on a platform made of wooden pallets covered with a fake grass rug to keep the catio from sitting directly on the bare concrete floor. To give our cats access to the catio, we cut a hole in the window screen and another one in one of the back panels. You might also want to block the gaps between the wall and the catio—even if they seem small—because a smaller cat could slip through. Pool noodles work well for filling those gaps.
