I cut a 1 inch diameter stick to a sharp point and it was still razor sharp. The sheath with included ferro rod is well designed for fit and function. I would pick this knife for most outings. The only con is the 1066 steel will rust, so keep it clean and oiled. If stored in leather sheath it may rust, so oil the blade, always keep it oiled. The knife came shaving sharp in a nice sheath with a lanyard amd a ferro rod. The hardwood handle is nice instead of the rubber- like handles that get sticky in hot weather and looks very classy. The blade is full tang and decently thick for batoning, and the size is very nice. Substantial without being too large.
